RIDERS IN THE SKY

Howdy! Headin' to the Riders in the Sky concert at the Kentucky Theater in Lexington, Kentucky tomorrow night. There are 4 of us going to the concert. This is my third time. Riders in the Sky just celebrated their 30th anniversary. If you don't know anything about the group, check out their website at http://www.ridersinthesky.com/ . Be sure to have your audio turned up to hear some of their songs. They are a lot of fun for the entire family if you ever get a chance to see them in person.

MERRY CHRISTMAS

Just ten days before Christmas and I don't know about you, but I'm not ready. Everything seems to move too fast these days. Nevertheless, we need to stop and reflect on the real meaning of Christmas. I hope that you do.

GOD IS A REFUGE IN TROUBLE

"I cried unto the Lord with my voice; with my voice unto the Lord did I make my supplication. I poured out my complaint before Him; I shewed before Him my trouble. When my spirit was overwhelmed within me, then Thou knewest my path. In the way wherein I walked have they privily laid a snare for me. I looked on my right hand, and beheld, but there was no man that would know me: refuge failed me; no man cared for my soul. I cried unto Thee, O Lord: I said, Thou art my refuge and my portion in the land of the living. Attend unto my cry; for I am brought very low: deliver me from my persecutors; for they are stronger than I. Bring my soul out of prison, that I may praise Thy name; the righteous shall compass me about; for Thou shalt deal bountifully with me."
Psalm 142

CELTIC WOMAN

I attended the Celtic Woman concert at Rupp Arena Friday night November 9, 2007. It was an awesome two hour concert. If I ever have the chance, I'll go again, but for now I'll continue to enjoy the three DVDs that I have of theirs. They are so extremely talented and not bad to look at either!!! SUICIDE

I have realized since I was just a youth that this is a very evil world. My foremost prayer for years has been that the Lord would let me go to be with Him. I desire to hide "under the shadow of Thy wings." See Psalm 17:8. Sometimes the pressures of this world can overwhelm us and we lose our hope. This can even happen to Christians. I know because I have been there. I have struggled for years in my walk with my Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ. This ought not to be: I've grown up with Him; I've read through the Bible over a dozen times from cover to cover plus countless times for various parts of the Bible; I pray to Him continually; I have a wonderful Christian family and great Christian friends; I have worked in, and now own, a Christian business. Nevertheless, I have considered doing the worst as maybe some of you have, or maybe someone you know. I personally have no desire to visit a "professional in the field", but it may be the right thing for some. In my case, I know that the Lord has helped me work through my struggles and I am still here because that is what He wants for me for now. I have done some research on this topic and have included here some links for you if you are interested. This is just a small list that can get you started. May the Lord watch over you as He does for me. http://www.gotquestions.org/suicide-Bible-Christian.html

I JUST GOT IN THIS PHOTO OF ROY ROGERS THAT I WON ON E-BAY. IT IS HAND SIGNED "TO MIKE, MANY HAPPY TRAILS, ROY ROGERS". IT IS A PROMO PHOTO FROM THE 1948 MOVIE "EYES OF TEXAS" WITH LYNNE ROBERTS, ANDY DEVINE, NANA BRYANT AND THE SONS OF THE PIONEERS. I'VE E-MAILED THE ROY & DALE MUSEUM IN BRANSON, MO. TO ASK ABOUT THE PHOTO'S AUTHENTICITY.

PRETTY COOL THAT ROY WAS THINKING OF ME ABOUT SEVEN YEARS BEFORE I WAS BORN, DON'T YOU THINK?

GOVERNOR FLETCHER & THE KHP

HERE IS MY LATEST LETTER TO THE EDITOR OF THE LEXINGTON HERALD LEADER:
GOVERNOR FLETCHER, YOUR PORTRAIT HANGS PROUDLY IN THE VISITOR CENTER OF THE KENTUCKY HORSE PARK SO I ASSUME THAT MEANS "THE BUCK STOPS WITH YOU." WHY THEN HAVE YOU STOOD BY AND ALLOWED MUCH OF THE "HEART AND SOUL" OF THE KHP TO DRAIN AWAY? AS A FREQUENT VISITOR TO THE KHP AND A 2006 VOLUNTEER, I HAVE SEEN SOME OF THE "BEST OF THE BEST" LEAVE. THESE ARE PEOPLE WITH 10, 15 AND EVEN 28 YEARS EXPERIENCE WITH THE PARK. NEW STADIUMS AND ROADS ARE NEEDED FOR SURE, BUT THE WORLD WILL BE MEETING OUR "FRONTLINERS". ONE WOULD LIKE TO THINK THAT WITH THE APPROACHING 2010 GAMES THAT MORE ATTENTION WOULD BE PAID TO RETAIN A VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE AND EXPERIENCED STAFF. ALAS, THE OPPOSITE SEEMS TRUE AT THE KHP. I AM A LIFELONG REPUBLICAN AND I VOTED FOR YOU IN THE 2007 PRIMARY. NEVERTHELESS, I HAVE INFORMED YOUR "HEAD OF CONSTITUENT SERVICES" THAT I WILL NOT VOTE FOR YOU IN THE FALL ELECTION. CHANGE MY MIND.

THIS WAS SUBMITTED TO THE HERALD LEADER ON SUNDAY AUGUST 5TH. CHECK OUT http://www.dennychapman.blogspot.com/ FOR A TRIBUTE TO LINDA BRANTLEY, "THE VOICE OF THE KENTUCKY HORSE PARK" WHO HAS RECENTLY RETIRED AFTER 28 YEARS.

NEW CORNER STONE SIGN

After 31 years in the same location, our store is moving about half a mile around the corner to 125 Codell Drive. It is a new center that is located across Todd's Road from Lowe's. This is a computer design of the sign we will be placing on an easel in the store window. This sign originally was painted brown and hung on the wall outside our old location for 25 years or so. I am somewhat apprehensive about the move since I have been struggling in my walk with the Lord for a long time. If He is truly in this move, then everything will work out according to His plan. It sure has been a matter of a great deal of prayer on the part of a lot of people. Lord willing, we plan to be up and running at the new spot by July 31, if not sooner. Continue to pray that the Lord's will be done in all of this for His glory and the work of His kingdom.

NIBBLES KNAUER

A friend, Nibbles, having a bad feather day and wondering if there is anything better to watch on TV. Maybe Animal Planet? Or how about her favorite movie, Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds?

ZODER'S INN, GATLINBURG, TN

This is a view of the footbridge that leads across the Roaring Fork stream to part of the Zoder's Inn complex in Gatlinburg, TN. We stay in the third floor room shown here above the parking garage. Our family has stayed in various sections of the complex since the early 70's. It has grown considerably since we first stayed at Zoder's. It is as much a part of our trip to the Smoky Mountains as the Park itself. The following photos are of our most recent trip to the Smokies from March 25 to March 28, 2007. We went to Ripley's Aquarium, Dixie Stampede and Cades Cove while we were there. We ate breakfast at the Pancake Pantry a few blocks uptown and at Appleby's across the street from Zoder's. My favorite photography studio, Beneath The Smoke, is only a couple of blocks away.

JOHN OLIVER CABIN IN CADES COVE

This cabin is the oldest log home in Cades Cove. It was built in the early 1820's. The cabin is the first historic building you seen when entering Cades Cove. The cove is a beautiful valley located in the Smoky Mountains National Park. There is an 11 mile loop road around the valley where many historic structures have been preserved. Deer and wild turkey can been seen in the early morning hours. Sometimes even a black bear or two will show up. Bicyclists can enjoy the loop, but the traffic can be pretty heavy at times. The valley is about 25 to 30 miles from Gatlinburg, TN.
